Make a Business With Calligraphy

One of the things I love about being a calligrapher is that I can teach my art to others and touch so many lives. While calligraphy is great to learn as a hobby to channel your creativity, it’s even better at opening doors as an entrepreneur!

What Products Can I Sell With Calligraphy?

Calligraphy and hand lettering has always been popular in the wedding industry, however we’ve seen a recent boom in many other industries as well, including everyone from solo creative entrepreneurs to tech giants!

Calligraphy for Weddings

Naturally, the first thing people think of when they hear “calligraphy” is weddings. Simple yet elegant hand penned place cards are a perfect place for beginner calligraphy entrepreneurs to flex their skills, however more advanced calligraphers and letterers can go onto full invitations, seating charts, menus, and larger more complex designs in addition to place cards and table numbers.

Calligraphy for Businesses

Gone away are the days of boring, white walled office buildings with no character. The rise in trendy tech startups has given way to a whole new kind of office layout, and that includes some pretty funky wall art! For calligraphers who prefer working in large (and I mean HUGE) spaces, murals allow you to design in a very macro environment, where your art can be appreciated daily by thousands of people.

Restaurants are also great clients for calligraphers for hand lettered menus and other signage that need changing and updating regularly as menus shift and specials are added.

Calligraphy for Everyone

Selling directly to individuals is another great way of making some money with your calligraphy skills. Some of the most popular physical products to make with calligraphy are stickers and laser cut designs like cake toppers and wall art, however the possibilities really are endless!

For digital items, there’s even more possibilities including downloadable prints, png images, svgs for craft machines like Cricut and Silhouette, and custom gifs for Instagram. You can even create your own fonts and sell them on sites like Creative Market or Gumroad so that other designers and businesses can use them!

What’s The Best Way to Learn Calligraphy?

There is no shortage of amazing online courses available online to learn calligraphy, however nothing beats the hands-on experience you get when you take an in-person workshop (although I might be a bit biased!).

In this workshop, you’ll learn all the basic strokes needed to create consistent, perfect letters and get real-time feedback from me to help you master the foundations faster! I go around to every single student that attends my workshops to check their hand placement, how they’re holding the pen, what angle the paper is placed, the angle you’re creating between the pen and the paper, and even your posture. There’s so much more that goes into calligraphy than learning how to write!

Once we’ve nailed down the basics, you’ll leave with all the materials and pens you need to get you started, plus an entire workbook to take you through the lowercase and uppercase letters. You’ll be a calligraphy pro in no time!

How Can I Sign Up for a Workshop?

I offer in-person workshops periodically, so be sure to check my Instagram or the Workshops page for the latest news on when I’ll be teaching next!
