Your Guide to Wedding Signage
Here at Deco Ink Designs, we love a good wedding sign. From instructional signs that tell your guests what to do and where to go, to aesthetic signs to help set the mood and really make a statement, there’s no shortage of types of signs you can include in your wedding day! Learn all about the different types of signs here so you know how to ask your signage designer for exactly what you need!
Large Format Signs
Welcome Signs
Welcome signs are a classic wedding sign, and for a good reason! These large-format signs help your guests know where to go for your ceremony or reception, and help set the tone for the rest of the event. These signs are usually the first thing your guests will see, and really help tie in your wedding theme when combined with your florals and other decor. Welcome signs can either be on an easel or free-standing.
Aisle Signs
Aisle signs are placed at the start of your aisle, most commonly behind the last row of seats. These signs can be instructional asking guests to unplug and keep their phones away, let guests know which side of the aisle to sit on, or feature the couple’s favorite quote or Bible verse. Just like welcome signs, the aisle sign helps set the stage for the tone of the ceremony.
Seating Charts
Seating charts are one of our most highly recommended signs at Deco Ink because of how useful they are. Especially if you’re having a large wedding reception, a seating chart can quickly and easily help guests navigate which table they should be headed towards. Without a seating chart of some sort, guests are left to wander around your reception area trying to find their assigned seat… not so great if your guest list is in the 100s! Smaller seating charts can be displayed on an easel like the welcome sign (many couples reuse the same easel and switch out the sign between the ceremony and reception), but we love the look of a free-standing seating chart for that extra “wow” factor.
Laser Cut Signs
Laser cut signs have boomed in popularity in recent years, and we are all for it! These extra-large signs make such a statement when affixed to a greenery wall or another piece of material that matches your wedding decor. They make great backdrops for photos, and can look perfect behind a sweetheart table. Laser cut signs are also great for decorating an otherwise plain-looking bar to really tie your wedding decor together.
Instructional Signage
We wanted to give instructional signage it’s own section because there’s so many different applications for instructional signs! Anything that gives your guests information or directions falls under this category, but here are some of our most popular requests for instructional signage.
Table Numbers and Escort Tags
Table numbers are small free-standing numerical signs placed on each of your tables so guests know which table is which, and are an essential sign on our list. Not only are they practical, but can help tie together your reception perfectly because we can coordinate them with your welcome sign, seating chart, and other large signs for a consistent experience from ceremony to reception. Escort tags or place cards mark which seat at the table is for which guest. They’re often used as party favors for guests to bring home as a memento of your celebration!
Cocktail and Dessert Signs
What kind of party doesn’t have drinks or dessert?! Cocktail and dessert signs give guests a look into your specialty menu items that they go and get themselves. Cocktail signs help tie your bar into the rest of your event, and highlight your signature cocktails for the evening. After all, there’s only so many times in your life when you get to have a drink named after you! Dessert signs are similar, and are a great way to let guests know flavours to look for at your dessert table. Similar signs can be made if you’re having a buffet reception to let guests know the menu, too.
Other Tabletop Instructional Signage
The possibilities are nearly endless when it comes to instructional signage. Ask guests to take a Polaroid photo for your guest book, sign a puzzle piece, or write a note for you and your spouse to open after 1 year together! Mark which table is for gifts, and where specifically to place cards and other envelopes.
Decorative Signage
While this category might say “decorative”, these signs should not be underestimated! Decorative signs help tie together your full wedding design, and are great mementos for you to look back on for years to come!
Cake Toppers
Say goodbye to the mini bride and groom, and say hello to a modern cake topper! These cake toppers are laser cut out of acrylic, wood, or another material that matches your wedding theme, and are a great way to customize your cake even further and add some drama and height. Some of our most popular cake topper designs feature the couple’s names or a monogram.
Sweetheart Table Sign and Chair Signs
We’re big fans of the sweetheart table, as it gives you and your newly-wedded partner some time to enjoy your big day together while still being a part of the party. Adding a sweetheart table sign (“Mr and Mrs” is the go-to!) or chair signs is a fantastic way to make your table stand out.
Stir Sticks, Coasters, Napkins, and More
When it comes to bringing together a wedding theme, it’s the little details that can really make the difference. Small items like stir sticks, coasters, and napkins are items that every guest will use over the course of the night, and help bring together your wedding theme at every interaction. If you’re looking to take your wedding theme to the next level, this is the way to do it!
